A commissioned mosaic is an opportunity to create artwork that is uniquely yours - designed for your home, your architecture, and your story. Whether you're envisioning a dramatic statement piece, a quiet focal point, or a meaningful gift, I work closely with you to create a mosaic that will be enjoyed for generations.

The Process

1. Discovery
We begin with a conversation about your vision, space, dimensions, style, and budget. Photos, architectural plans, or inspiration images are helpful as we explore possibilities.

2. Design
I develop concepts that consider composition, color, scale, lighting, and the surrounding environment. I often start with colored pencil drawings to help us discuss layout and color values.

3. Proposal
You'll receive a detailed proposal outlining the scope of work, estimated timeline, and investment. A deposit reserves your place in my studio schedule and allows design and fabrication to begin. I have a healthy inventory of glass and will often journey to one of my three favorite glass stores in northern California to find just the right piece(s) for your commission. 

4. Creation
Each mosaic is handcrafted from carefully selected art glass using museum-quality materials and techniques. I'll provide periodic photo updates so you can follow your artwork as it comes to life. I encourage you to visit the studio at least once...but no more than twice...during the process!

5. Completion & Installation
When the piece is complete, I'll coordinate delivery and, when appropriate, assist with installation planning to ensure the artwork is beautifully presented.

The Investment

A commissioned mosaic is more than the finished artwork. It includes thoughtful design, consultation, project management, ongoing communication, craftsmanship, and the creation of a one-of-a-kind piece that cannot be replicated.

Current commissions begin at approximately $800 per square foot, with final pricing based on size, complexity, materials, framing and installation requirements.

Why Glass?

For thousands of years, glass has captivated us with its brilliance and permanence. It possesses a rare ability to capture, reflect, and transmit light, creating depth and luminosity that cannot be achieved with other mediums. Glass is an extraordinary material - neither solid like stone nor truly liquid, glass exists in a unique state known as an amorphous solid. Its intimate relationship with light is what makes glass so compelling as an artistic medium. Every piece of glass in my studio is there for a reason (its color, texture or luminosity) and is waiting to become part of an even better story!
